Especially if it is our first baby and we do not have another little one running around the house, we usually look for that time to relax because we know that during pregnancy it is very positive to be calm, feel comfortable, take care of ourselves.

Perhaps one of the things we do most often sits or lie placidly, put our hands on our bellies, and listen to music.

And here the question arises: What music to listen to ? what volume to put?

In yoga classes for pregnant women, many women ask me what music is most recommended for their babies. And my answer is always the same: The one that makes you feel good, like your mom.

When we do something that makes us feel pleasure, we secrete a very characteristic hormone, oxytocin, what the French obstetrician Michel Odent calls “THE HORMONE OF LOVE”, curiously the one we will need for labor and lactation, among others.

Therefore, every woman has to listen to that style of music that makes her feel pleasurable, which makes her feel good. In this way, upon receiving this pleasant sensation, the woman's mood will improve and hormones that travel through the placenta towards the baby will be secreted and he will receive this same sensation (1). Whatever style of music we choose to listen to. It can make a woman feel very well, for example, certain pieces of classical music and others, music with percussion elements. The volume? Well, the one that you find most pleasant.

And sing?

Singing is excellent. It is one of the most beneficial practices that we can easily do during pregnancy, even if you think you sing badly. For the baby, the most wonderful voice that will listen is that of his mother. The little one is not going to say whether her mother is out of tune or not, she is not going to judge anything, she will only feel that voice, more and more known. That voice that when you are away will transmit calm.

Besides singing, it is an excellent breathing exercise, since it lengthens the exhalations, makes them deeper and more effective. Any song is beneficial, but especially the one that, as always, you like the most: Any song from your childhood?

So, you know, the days when you feel a little less happy: sing, sing, and sing. Your body will thank you and your baby too.
