Kissing has its benefits, but also its risks. According to specialists, each kiss on the lips has a billion bacteria from 278 different species and also viruses.

1. Herpes

The so-called "cold sores", red blisters on the lips, is caused by a highly contagious virus called "herpes simplex." It can be contracted even by kisses that are not so deep, just a touch of lips.

The American Dental Association indicates that any risk of acquiring diseases by kissing is minimized if you have good oral hygiene. Dirty teeth and gum wounds are an invitation poster for germs.

2. Sexually transmitted diseases

According to the American Social Health Association, it is documented that virus diseases such as gonorrhea, herpes itself and syphilis may be present in saliva. So, they say, they can contract through kisses.

3. Hepatitis B

Although the greatest amount of hepatitis B virus is in the blood, it can also be present in saliva. And contagion usually occurs when two risky fluids meet: infected blood and saliva from a mouth sore. The spread of HIV through kisses is not documented.

4. Warts

Warts in the mouth may appear by a kiss. These bumps are caused by one of the forms of Human Papillomavirus or HPV, which is highly contagious. The wart does not represent a serious health problem, but it is aesthetic.

5. Caries

Many of the bacteria that cause tooth decay can reach your mouth through kisses. The positive is that saliva, own or foreign, if healthy, fights bacteria, viruses and fungi.

6. Mononucleosis

Known as the "kissing disease", because its main route of transmission is saliva, mononucleosis is a viral infection with a high incidence in adolescents. The symptoms are, among others: fatigue, lack of appetite, headache and high fever.

Treatment: the key is to rest a lot and gargle with water and salt to relieve throat irritation. Also, take clomifene or ibuprofen for fever and headache. It may take months to regain the usual energy

7. Cytomegalovirus

It is a viral infection with symptoms and form of transmission similar to mononucleosis: through saliva, fluids and blood. The symptoms resemble those of the strong flu, and, although it does not usually become a major evil, it does bring complications to pregnant women.

8. Gingivitis

According to the American Dental Association, if you kiss a person with gingivitis, and you don't take care of your teeth, bacteria that "visit" your mouth can start to injure them.

9. Respiratory infections

Also known as a cold. It is believed that it is spread by direct contact with the virus. You can even get the flu by having contact with drops or secretions (fluids and mucous membranes) from an infected person.

* If you stay healthy, and your partner too, your kisses will continue to be part of the most magical moments between two beings that attract and love each other.
